Welcome to my wildlife gallery. I enjoy the challenges of wildlife photography and would love to photograph some really wild animals - but at the moment I'm doing my practising in wildlife parks!
I also enjoy learning about the animals - and some of that I hope will come out in the photographs you'll see.
I hope you enjoy them!

Brown Bears

Brown Bears

These photographs were taken on a recent photo-shoot in Bavaria. It was my first real encounter with these animals and I was intrigued to learn that the hump at the top of their front legs is one huge muscle (instead of two as in most animals) and gives them the enormous strength behind a swing of their paws. At the same time, their claws can be used to shell a peanut! Instead of eating huge mouthfuls of meat, I watched the bears carefully tearing off quite small pieces of meat. The cubs were enormous fun to watch - rolling around in the snow, lying on logs on their backs eating the termites from the bark - and often rolling off in the process. This was a family occasion with 3 cubs their mother, grandmother - and a huge daddy bear - Goldilocks comes to mind!

Wolves

Wolves

These photographs were taken on a recent photo-shoot in Bavaria. I've always enjoyed watching wolves and I love their sense of alertness. The first image is that of a guard wolf - as if protecting the path; you could often only see his ears - of course, it may just have been his favourite place for a nap!. The other images are those of typical wolf behaviour - the fighting! In the middle of the day it was often the omega wolf who was wandering around on his own - but woe betide him if he got too near some of the others. The final image shows the result - licking his wounds.
